For over 39 years, Sydney Community College has been providing practical learning experiences to the community of Sydney, NSW. As a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation, our mission is to provide affordable and high-quality continuing education to the adult community of Sydney, with a belief that education is a right for every person.

We strive to ensure that our courses are accessible to everyone in the community, regardless of their gender, status, culture, or ability. If you are under 18 and interested in enrolling, please contact our Customer Service team.

Our Offering

Sydney Community College is a place to step out of routine and into something new. Whether you're looking to pick up a creative skill, explore a new interest, or build on your professional expertise, our short courses are built for curious people who want to learn by doing. No pressure, no long commitments, just classes that feel engaging, social, and genuinely enjoyable. Many of our courses are also a great way to upskill for work, with practical career and professional development programs that can give your career a real boost.

With over 1,200 classes running each year, our on-campus and online courses span an enormous range of subjects, from career and professional development, languages, and finance, to visual arts, music, writing, handcrafts, health and wellbeing, and so much more.

Our main campus is in Rozelle, NSW, less than 10 minutes from the Sydney CBD, and includes a visual art space, professional training space, and on-site parking. Courses vary in length from 3 to 18 hours, with no prior qualifications or assessments required to enrol.

Community Outreach

Sydney Community College serves the community by offering quality and affordable educational programs. By partnering with government, we deliver courses that focus on providing education to community groups facing barriers to entering the workforce, including:

Our History

1986

Founded from humble beginnings — just a telephone and a small office — when Cleveland Street Evening College and Leichhardt Evening College amalgamated. Based on a NSW government policy to better use NSW State Schools, the College set out to create a place where communities could come together to learn.

1998

Became a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), expanding accredited course offerings and cementing the College's role in vocational education.

2021

Became a registered charity, reinforcing our commitment to community education and enabling us to better support disadvantaged learners across Sydney.

Today

One of the largest and most respected community colleges in Australia, offering over 300 courses and 1,200 classes each year. State and National award winners, including Provider of the Year (NSW) and Programme of the Year (National). Our focus remains proudly on Quality Continuing Adult Education.

Our Purpose

Sydney Community College is a registered charity with a voluntary Board of Directors. The College has a mission to offer innovative continuing adult education and training programmes that support individual efforts and facilitate sustainable social change. We do this by:

Providing quality continuing adult education opportunities for people to build practical and theoretical skills and develop knowledge
Leveraging from and developing community capacity and inclusivity
Developing innovative, affordable and accessible skills training programmes
Partnering with like organisations to deliver learning opportunities for disadvantaged individuals and communities
Partnering with all levels of government to deliver education policy objectives
