What you'll learn
Learn the graceful traditions of Chinese painting with our painting courses in Sydney!
The orchid is one of the treasured “Four Gentlemen” plants in traditional Chinese painting, admired for its elegance, purity, and symbolic meaning. Representing resilience and the noble virtues of the Junzi (literati or gentleman), the orchid has long been a favourite subject in Chinese art.
In this beginner-friendly course, you will be introduced to the beauty of Chinese orchid flower painting through classical brush techniques, cultural history, and the philosophical ideas that have inspired artists for centuries. Each session combines practical painting exercises with an appreciation of traditional Chinese aesthetics, symbolism, and technique.

Paloma said: Franz was the most wonderful teacher once more! He adjusted the class to our interests and supported us in our learning process. He is extremely knowledgeable, pacient and nice. Cannot wait for his next course! My 3 stars rating on the venue comes from having drums class next door...it was a bit unpleasant at times. I would encourage SCC to try to find a more peaceful and quiet classroom for Chinese ink. Besides this observation, thanks so much SCC for organising this great opportunities for us to learn!!!! Keep it up! :)

Lara said: Have thoroughly enjoyed this course. Franz is a very enthusiastic and engaging tutor and creates a very welcoming environment. This is the fourth Chinese painting course I have attended (all 4 'Gentlemen') and I'm looking forward to the courses Franz has planned for the coming year. My painting is improving, and so is my appreciation and understanding of Chinese art.
