Course content
This English Communication Skills course will
help you to interact more comfortably when speaking or listening to Australian people in a range of social and work contexts.
The following will be included:
- Identify your spoken communication problems
- Practise conversation – Australian spoken language and slang
- Practise conversation – listening and speaking for fluency
- Learn idioms and essential phrases
- Discuss topical issues
- Learn the sounds of English - vowels and consonants
- Practise the sounds of English
- Understand how syllables and stress work in English pronunciation
- Practise word and sentence stress in conversation and getting your message across
- Learn to speak smoothly - contractions and linking
- Practise speaking with English rhythm and intonation
Due to the variable nature of adult education classes, parts of the curriculum may be adapted to suit the needs of the class.

Pre-requesites
- have graduated from our English Course: Pre-Intermediate
- have 60 hours or more of previous language learning

No textbook is required as tutors provide all materials. However, if you want to buy a dictionary, ask your tutor in the first class which dictionary they recommend.
