In this practical short course, you'll learn how to repair, restore, and revitalise your favourite timber pieces. From fixing wobbly chairs and replacing missing parts to refreshing worn finishes, our experienced tutor will guide you through essential restoration techniques using reclaimed or well-loved furniture.

Perfect for beginners and DIY enthusiasts alike, this workshop will equip you with the skills to confidently restore furniture using hand tools, a power sander, a heat gun, and more. You’ll leave with the satisfaction of having revived a piece of furniture you can proudly use again.

We recommend you bring your own project to work on in class, and you will go home with functional and great furniture that you will enjoy using again.

Carry out basic repairs on timber furniture
Repair loose or damaged joints
Replace missing or worn parts
Use woodworking tools safely and effectively
Restore finishes with glues, waxes, and polishes

Safety and Housekeeping
Using timber glues, furniture waxing and polishing
Using hand tools and clamps
Learn how to repair joints
Discover how to freshen up metal fittings

Course materials

What to bring to class

Please bring 1 or 2 small items of your own to work on (eg. a chair or coffee table). It doesn’t have to be a prized possession– even roadside finds will suffice.

Gumtree

Additional information

Please note the following:

Lunch is not supplied. Please bring your own, or select from one of the many cafes nearby
Wear old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
Preferably wear a hat or cap
If you have long hair, please tie it back
Wear closed-in shoes, no open-toe sandals or heels
Please do not wear necklaces or bracelets
Content may vary slightly depending on class pace, participant interests, and instructor approach.
