What will be covered in this project management course?
This Introduction to Project Management short course covers a broad range of practices and skills that help students develop their careers and open the door to a successful Project Management journey. This range of methods and skills include:
- An introduction to PMBOK methodology includes a range of units – managing project scope, time, cost, quality, risk, procurement, human resources and communications, and integrating each of the project management functions.
- An introduction to PRINCE2 methodology
- An introduction to Agile methodology includes the Agile Manifesto, scrums, sprints, and iterative releases from a product backlog.
- Key roles of the project team – project owner, project sponsor and project manager. In so doing, examining the importance of the project manager managing upwards, sideways and downwards.
- Managing upwards to refine the project brief and prepare a project scope statement.
- Overall responsibilities of a project manager versus project facilitators and workstream owners. Lead a team of project facilitators by empowering them to work within project constraints and with accountability.
- Managing project time with the assistance of network diagrams
- Managing a project budget and timing the release of funds against project costs so that the project remains financially viable.
- Delivering against project quality metrics, including working within compliance requirements.
- Developing contingency plans to manage the risk associated with a project pro-actively.
- Obtain and allocate resources between projects and ongoing business.
- Identifying key stakeholders and communicating accordingly for best outcomes.
