Continue your journey in weaving wonderland with our Weaving short courses in Sydney!

Extend your knowledge of coil-weaving basketry practices in this weaving workshop for Continuers. You'll be introduced to new weaving techniques, and learn how to add final flourishes to your beautiful basketry pieces, including coiled woven lids and handles. 

Your experienced tutor will provide hands-on assistance and expert advice on form, materials and more.

You'll also explore how to express your creativity sustainably by learning how to incorporate plant material and recycled fabric into your pieces.

Join us for a meditative and artistic day with like-minded weavers and creatives. You'll create at least one unique piece to take home with you, as well as abundant inspiration and ideas for your next project!

Please note: this workshop is suitable for those who have completed our Sustainable Coiled Basket Weaving Workshop: Beginners, or those who possess a basic knowledge of coil weaving basketry and wish to extend their practice.  

Learning outcomes

By the end of this Continuers basket weaving class, you should have learnt:

  • How to make a lid for your coiled vessel. 
  • How to make string using plant material or fabric, which you can use in your projects. 
  • The 'cobbling' technique.
  • How to confidently continue your own projects at home.

Course content

What will be covered in this Continuers basket weaving course?

This one-day workshop will focus on introducting a number of new techniques that can be used to extend your coiling basketry skills, including:

  • How to make a lid.
  • Making string/cordage for handles.
  • Cobbling.

This workshop is suitable for those who have completed our Sustainable Coiled Basket Weaving Workshop: Beginners, or those who possess a basic knowledge of coil weaving basketry and wish to extend their practice. If you are new to coiled basket-weaving, you may like to start with our Beginners Workshop.

Course materials

What to bring to class:

  • Scissors
  • Chenille needle size 18/22 or needle with a large eye and sharp point
  • Raffia - minimum 50g. You may wish to bring more than one colour. Bring any leftover, scrappy bits of raffia if you have them.
  • A ball of 4, 5 or 8 ply yarn. You may like to bring more than one colour to create multi-coloured pieces.
