Code of Conduct
Sydney Community College views students and staff as partners in the learning process, each contributing to a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment. This policy outlines the expected standards of behaviour for both students and staff.
Student Responsibilities
- Treat fellow students with respect, recognising individual differences and perspectives
- Treat College staff in a fair, respectful, and civil manner
- Respect privacy and maintain appropriate confidentiality in relation to other students and staff
- Follow reasonable directions provided by tutors or College staff
- Participate in learning activities in a constructive and cooperative manner
- Act in a way that supports a safe learning environment and does not create risk to others
- Be aware of and follow relevant College policies and procedures
- Engage with access and equity principles as outlined in the College's Access and Equity policy
Staff Responsibilities
- Treat students and colleagues with respect and professionalism
- Contribute to a learning and workplace environment that is inclusive and supportive
- Handle student and staff information in accordance with privacy requirements
- Provide clear and appropriate guidance to students to support their learning experience
- Support students in understanding relevant College processes and expectations
- Conduct themselves in a manner consistent with College policies and professional standards
- Communicate with students and colleagues in a respectful and appropriate way
- Participate in professional development relevant to their role where appropriate
Behaviour and Professional Standards
A positive learning environment relies on appropriate behaviour from all participants. Sydney Community College expects that communication is respectful and constructive, concerns are raised through appropriate channels, and individuals act within the scope of their role and responsibilities.
Unreasonable behaviour, including disrespectful, disruptive, or inappropriate conduct, may be addressed in line with College policies and procedures.
