Yoko Kawada

Yoko is a designer and maker with a background in interior design, who studied in London. She is the founder of Art Kintsugi Sydney and the SQUARE + ROUND series — a creative practice that blends handcraft and material technology with a unique cross-cultural perspective.

Her journey with Kintsugi began through training with master artisans in Japan, where she deepened her knowledge of traditional repair techniques, including Makie and the ancient Urushi method. Her work reflects the spirit of “wabi-sabi” — finding beauty in imperfection — and the harmony of opposites.

In her workshops, Yoko shares the joy of this thoughtful, tactile artform. She encourages students to slow down, create with intention, and discover the quiet satisfaction of mending something with care.
