This three-week wheel-throwing course introduces the fundamental skills of working on the pottery wheel in a focused and supportive studio setting. Students are guided through the essential steps of preparing clay, centring, and forming simple shapes such as cylinders and bowls. The course is suitable for beginners and those returning to ceramics who want a clear, practical introduction to wheel throwing, with an emphasis on learning correct technique and gaining confidence on the wheel in a short timeframe.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this wheel-throwing course, you should be able to:
- Use the pottery wheel
- Centre, open and pull your clay
- Trim your pottery
- Use underglazes and glazes to decorate your pottery

This course is for absolute beginners or those with a minimal working knowledge of ceramics.

Please note: Parking is not permitted on Prentice Lane. Free all-day parking is available on surrounding streets near the studio.

Additional information
Please note the following:
- Please don’t wear your best clothing! Clay will wash out, but it’s better to wear some older clothes
- If you have long hair, please tie it back
- Wear closed-in shoes
- Nails need to be trimmed
- You will need to return a week after the last class to collect your pieces. You will be able to discuss this with your teacher
