Across six practical sessions (3 hours each), you’ll learn the complete podcasting workflow, from shaping a strong concept and format through to recording clean audio, editing in a DAW, preparing files for distribution, and building a simple promotion strategy.

This course is designed for complete beginners and focuses on practical skills, creative confidence and sustainable workflows, so you can avoid “podfading” and keep producing content that connects with listeners. You’ll finish with a clear, step-by-step gameplan you can follow to create and launch your own podcast, whether you’re recording interviews, sharing stories, building a community, or supporting a business or personal brand.

You’ll gain hands-on experience using professional and accessible audio tools such as DaVinci Resolve (Fairlight), Audacity, or Adobe Audition, and learn how to apply the same core principles no matter which software you choose.
 

Learning outcomes

By the end of this podcasting course, you should be able to:

  • Plan a podcast concept, niche and target audience
  • Choose an effective podcast format (solo, interview, co-hosted) and episode structure
  • Record clean, high-quality audio at appropriate levels using microphones correctly
  • Use a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to edit spoken-word audio with confidence
  • Fix common audio issues such as background noise, uneven levels, pops and basic room echo
  • Add music, intros/outros, transitions and simple effects to support clarity and tone
  • Export podcast episodes in standard formats suitable for publishing
  • Create essential podcast assets (artwork brief, show description, metadata)
  • Understand RSS feeds and how podcasts are distributed to major platforms
  • Develop a practical content plan and promotion strategy.

  • Planning your format: solo, interview, co-hosted, narrative
  • Episode structure, storytelling techniques, and writing for the ear
  • Scripting and run-sheets: keeping it natural without rambling
  • Interview technique: preparation, prompts, pacing and permission
  • Workflow planning: building a sustainable schedule to prevent podfading

Recording Techniques

  • Essential gear overview: microphones, headphones, interfaces (and what you don’t need)
  • Mic technique, placement and basic recording etiquette
  • Setting levels and capturing clean sound
  • Recording environments: improving less-than-ideal spaces
  • Voice basics: clarity, consistency, energy and fatigue management
  • Recording remote interviews (simple methods and common pitfalls)

Editing & Post-Production

  • DAW overview: Fairlight / Audacity / Audition (core skills that transfer)
  • Editing fundamentals: cutting, trimming, tightening pacing
  • Noise reduction and cleanup: background noise, pops, hums and uneven volume
  • Basic mixing for spoken word: levels, EQ basics, compression basics
  • Adding music, intros/outros, transitions and effects appropriately
  • Export settings: formats, loudness basics, file naming and delivery standards

Publishing & Distribution

  • Hosting platforms overview (e.g. Libsyn, SoundCloud and other options)
  • Podcast artwork requirements and practical branding considerations
  • Metadata and show descriptions that help people find and trust your show
  • RSS feeds: what they are and how distribution works
  • Submitting to major platforms (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc.)

Marketing, Branding & Monetisation
