In this practical course, you'll explore some of the dynamics behind effective interpersonal communication and learn techniques you can apply in both professional and everyday situations.

You'll explore the concept of status in communication and consider how different ways of communicating can affect how we are perceived by others. Through discussion, observation and practical exercises, you'll experiment with ways to communicate with greater confidence and warmth while remaining approachable and responsive to the people around you.

You'll also learn practical approaches for those moments when conversation doesn't come naturally—from starting a conversation with someone you don't know well to using observations and leading statements to encourage others to open up and keep an interaction moving. With plenty of opportunities to practise with other participants, you'll develop techniques you can draw on when communicating with colleagues and stakeholders, networking or navigating everyday social situations.
