Digital assets include all data and information that belongs to you or is about you which is stored on your phone, computer, or online at different websites such as banks and social media with which you have interacted. Digital assets can be very important and valuable.
Your digital assets may include things such as:
- The documents and files saved on your computer and devices
- Your passwords to important websites, such as your bank or superannuation fund
- Material that you’ve posted on social media, such as Facebook
- Your emails
- Photos and videos which may have been uploaded to the “cloud”.
This Managing Your Digital Assets course will cover ways to simply organise and manage your files; tips for computer & device maintenance that will keep them performing efficiently for longer; how to set up backup systems in case of damage, loss, theft, or fire; how to include online assets as part of your end-of-life planning. Can I make new folders to sort things my way? How do I use my computer’s file management system? How can I easily sort and reorganize all my files? What happens with my online bank details and social media stuff if I am incapacitated? The experienced tutor uses simple relatable language and you will do simple exercises that will build your confidence.

By the end of this Tech Savvy managing your digital assets course, you should be able to:
- Understand what digital assets are
- Understand simple computer maintenance for optimal performance and safety
- Organise and manage your computer files
- Know different ways to do backups in case of loss, theft, or fire

The Tech Seniors program is for seniors aged 60 years and above who have little or no experience in using technology.

What to bring to class
Our computer room has both Apple and Windows computers. We suggest you bring:
- Notepad and pen
- Details of passwords for your devices, email address and other login passwords, etc
- A list of any specific questions you may have
- You are welcome to bring your own laptop, tablet, and smartphone to use. You can connect to the internet through the College Wi-Fi. If you don’t know how, we will show you!
