Learn how to use video calling platforms with our free Tech Savvy Seniors courses online & in Sydney!

Video calling is an additional way to connect with friends and family as well as participate in activities, events, and appointments from a distance. The aim of this workshop is to teach complete beginners (60 years of age and above) with little or no experience in using technologies, how to use common video calling applications in a safe and appropriate way. The experienced tutor will gladly answer your questions using simple relatable language and you will do simple exercises to build your confidence.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this introduction to video calling course, participants should be able to:

  • Know the different video apps and what each offers
  • Make a video call to another person
  • Add new contacts to your contact list
  • Set up a group chat in advance or invite others to join in real-time
  • Understand basic video call etiquette

What to bring to class

This Tech Savvy Seniors: Introduction to Video Calling course will be delivered online using Zoom. To get the best learning experience, students will need to have access to:

  • A desktop or laptop computer (preferred) otherwise a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet
  • The Zoom Application, which needs to be installed, tested and ready on your device. If you do not know how to install Zoom, please click here for installation instructions
  • A Reliable Internet connection with a sufficient quota of data on your internet plan. Nearly all home internet plans use the NBN and have plenty of data. Mobile device users who only use a 4G or 5G may not. If you are unsure, please contact your service provider
  • Ensure your camera and microphone are ready by running a test meeting at Zoom
