Tech Savvy Seniors: Introduction to the Internet

What you'll learn

Learn computer and digital skills with our free Tech Savvy Seniors courses in Sydney!

For people who didn’t grow up with computers, the internet can seem like a scary place. There is a world of unfamiliar jargon and new ways of communicating to contend with, and sometimes it can seem overwhelming. The truth is, however, that the internet has become quite user-friendly in recent years, and anybody is capable of accessing millions of websites, sending emails, shopping and banking online, and much more.

This introduction to the internet course will walk you through the very basics of the internet: how it works, how to get online, how to use ”search” functions like Google in different ways to find specific things, and how to use the facilities available in a web browser. At the end of this course, you should be able to easily and comfortably use the internet from any computer or mobile device to access all that it offers for enjoying, creating, communicating, learning and socially interacting. What is a web browser? Is the internet using up my mobile data? Are all web browsers the same? What are the little symbols on my web browser? How do I download documents from a website? How can I access my favourite websites quickly? Can I use free public WiFi safely? The experienced tutor uses simple relatable language and you will do simple exercises that will build your confidence.
